Eagan, MN - The Eagan Police Department made history this week by using a Grappler vehicle restraint system for the first time in Minnesota, safely stopping a pursuit that involved a U-Haul trailer.

The incident began on Aug. 30 at 3:29 p.m., when officers tried to pull over a 2000 white Toyota Tundra towing a U-Haul after it ran a red light at Yankee Doodle Road and Denmark Avenue in Eagan, police said. The woman driving refused to stop, leading officers into St. Paul.

Near the intersection of Otto Avenue and Shepard Road, an Eagan police Chevy Tahoe equipped with the Grappler took over the pursuit. As the fleeing vehicle slowed for a turn, the officer deployed the device, which snagged the truck’s rear tire and brought the chase to a safe end.

The driver ran from the scene on foot but was quickly arrested. Police said she will face charges including fleeing police in a motor vehicle, fleeing police on foot, driving after revocation, no proof of insurance, and failure to obey a traffic control device.
