Panvel Clash: Vlogger’s Refusal to Speak Marathi During Ganesh Prep Sparks Viral Debate

A heated clash over the Marathi–Hindi language issue broke out in Panvel, Maharashtra, involving travel vlogger Vijay Chandel. The incident occurred during Ganesh festival preparations when locals asked Chandel to converse in Marathi. He refused, insisting, “Hindi hi bolunga, Marathi kabhi nahi (I will only speak Hindi, never Marathi).”

The situation escalated as women from the group reminded him, “Maharashtra mein rehte ho (You live in Maharashtra),” but Chandel stood firm, declaring he would speak only Hindi “till death.” A video of the altercation has gone viral, fuelling a fierce online debate on language identity and regional pride.

Later, Chandel clarified that the dispute was also tied to disagreements over Ganesh Utsav arrangements in his society. He has since filed a police complaint, alleging harassment and mental pressure. Some individuals have apologised, but online trolling continues.
