In the King James Bible, Colossians 2:16-17 says: 16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: 17Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

Many Christians claim that the weekly 7th day Sabbath is a shadow of things to come but when you look carefully at Colossians 2:16-17, it speaks of not being judged in food or drink or in respect of an holy day or the new moon or the sabbath days.

What sabbath days is Paul speaking of? If Paul spoke of the weekly 7th day Sabbath in Colossians 2:16-17, then where in God’s holy 7th day Sabbath commandment found in Exodus 20:8-11 is there any reference to what we should eat or drink or celebrating a new moon? There is none.

Thus, the weekly 7th day Sabbath does not pertain the sabbath days in Colossians 2:16-17. What Paul was talking about when it comes to the sabbath days are the annual sabbath days or the annual feast days mentioned in Leviticus 23, which were part of the ordinances in the law of Moses which we spoke about concerning Ephesians 2:15.

It’s those annual sabbath days or annual feast days such as the feast of unleavened bread, the feast of weeks, the feast of trumpets, and others, which were shadows of things to come as they pointed to Christ’s first coming.

It’s in those feast days or annual sabbath days where people were judged in matters of food or drink as on the Day of Atonement, for instance, it was a day of fasting thus, you were not allowed to eat on that day.

Again, Colossians 2:16-17 has absolutely nothing to do with the weekly 7th day Sabbath which is a commandment of God, which MUST BE KEPT like all other nine commandments as it is our duty as a follower of Christ to keep them as per Ecclesiastes 12:13.

Observing God’s holy 7th day Sabbath commandment is part of our love and worship of God through faith in Christ.

Through the Holy Spirit and through faith in Christ, be moved to observe God’s holy ten commandments including God’s holy 7th day Sabbath commandment as on His 7th day Sabbath, all flesh shall come before God and worship Him from one Sabbath to another in Isaiah 66:23.

Be moved by the Holy Spirit to obey God rather than having a spirit of disobedience which reigns in the children of disobedience in Ephesians 2:2 and are being obstinate against God’s holy ten commandments including His 7th day Sabbath commandment.
