Antipsychotics are a class of drugs used primarily to treat schizophrenia and other mental disorders with psychotic symptoms.

Antipsychotics are categorized into two types: typical antipsychotics (traditional antipsychotics) and atypical antipsychotics (non-traditional antipsychotics). Typical antipsychotics, such as chlorpromazine, are primarily used to treat schizophrenia and mania. Atypical antipsychotics: Traditional (or typical) antipsychotics are mostly simple dopamine D2 receptor blockers, and current research and development of antipsychotics focuses on atypical antipsychotics.
