Saints Joachim and Anne are honored in Catholic tradition as the parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the grandparents of Jesus. Though not mentioned in Scripture, their story comes from early Christian writings, which describe them as a devout, elderly couple who longed for a child. After years of barrenness, their prayers were answered with the miraculous birth of Mary, prepared by God to be the Mother of the Savior. Joachim and Anne serve as role models for parents and both deserve to be honored and emulated for their devotion to God and Our Lady Mary, the Mother of God.
