A deadly landslide has wiped out an entire village in Sudan's western Darfur region, killing over a thousand people. The disaster struck the village of Tarasin in the Jebel Marra Range, triggered by days of heavy rain. According to a statement from the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army (SLM), which controls the area, only one survivor was found. Photos shared by the rebel group show the village buried under mud and debris. The SLM has appealed for international aid to recover bodies. The disaster highlights the dire humanitarian crisis in Sudan, where intense fighting between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has already hindered aid efforts.
