"The Necromancer" by Rush tells a story in three parts, following the journey of three travelers who venture into a dark and ominous land ruled by a powerful and malevolent being.

In the first section, the travelers leave the safety of the forest at dawn, crossing a river and moving southward into the Necromancer's domain. As they progress, they feel an increasing sense of dread and oppression. The air grows heavy with fear, and the Necromancer's influence begins to sap their strength and spirit. They press on, driven by a desperate hope for freedom and vengeance, knowing they risk becoming mindless, soulless specters under the Necromancer's control.

The second part, "Under the Shadow," shifts to the Necromancer himself, who sits in his tower, watching the intruders through magical prism eyes. He is aware of their presence and their inevitable downfall. The travelers are captured and brought to his dungeons, where they are overwhelmed by fear and ultimately submit, defeated by his overwhelming power.

The final section, "Return of the Prince," introduces By-Tor, the Champion Prince, who arrives to challenge the Necromancer. He fights to break the spell and liberate the land from years of darkness. In a decisive confrontation, By-Tor defeats the Necromancer, shattering his hold. The dark realm begins to brighten as the Wraith of the Necromancer escapes into the night sky, searching for new lands to corrupt with its evil gaze. The travelers are freed and escape the underground labyrinths, while the forces of darkness retreat—only to return another day.
