This track, “Double_Envelop,” is based on one of the most devastating tactical battles in military history: the Battle of Cannae (216 BC), where Hannibal Barca, commander of the Carthaginian army, crushed a numerically superior Roman force using what modern military theorists now define as maneuver warfare.

⚔️ THE BATTLE OF CANNAE
Took place in Apulia, southeastern Italy, during the Second Punic War.
Hannibal’s forces (~50,000) defeated a Roman army of over 80,000.
Roman consuls: Lucius Aemilius Paullus and Gaius Terentius Varro.

Roman units destroyed included 8 legions (each ~5,000 men), along with thousands of allied troops.

THE TACTIC: DOUBLE ENVELOPMENT
Hannibal didn’t meet strength with strength.
Instead, he:
Lured the Romans forward with a deliberately weak center.
Anchored elite troops on the flanks in a reverse-arc formation.
Used his superior cavalry to rout the Roman horse and strike from the rear.
Collapsed the Roman formation from all sides, forming a perfect encirclement.
