Santa Fe, NM - A woman is facing multiple charges after Santa Fe police say she crashed her car going the wrong way. Officers say it happened Friday, Aug. 29, on St. Michaels Drive near Marner Avenue.

Officers say at 9:39 pm, one of the patrol teams arrived on scene following a report of a head-on collision. They found that a 53-year-old female driver had sustained serious injuries to her legs. The victim of the crash was taken to the hospital. A witness told officers that the vehicle was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of St. Michaels Drive, colliding head-on with another vehicle. Police say the vehicle observed driving the wrong way was identified as 22-year-old Starlyn Staley.

Body camera footage shows an officer speaking with Staley. Staley in the video says she had consumed vodka.

Police say a dog was located in Staley’s vehicle. The dog did not have immediate signs of injury and was transported by an Animal Services officer to the Santa Fe Animal Shelter for safekeeping. Officers later learned the crash victim suffered two broken legs.

Police are charging Staley with great bodily harm by vehicle (DWI), reckless driving, expired driver's license, and possession of alcohol beverages in open containers in a motor vehicle. Staley remains under medical observation at a local hospital.
