Occidentum Lux presents: “Faith Protocol” — A Dark Techno Adaptation of the First Branch of the Mabinogion

Occidentum Lux is a music project devoted to resurrecting the myth, poetry, and forgotten legends of the Western World — through the pulse of darksynth, mythwave, and cinematic electronic sound. Our goal is to reforge the ancient past into soundtracks for the present.

This track is inspired by Pwyll, Prince of Dyfed, the First Branch of the Mabinogion — a medieval Welsh mythological collection compiled from much older oral traditions. The Mabinogion preserves some of the oldest Celtic stories in European literature, steeped in themes of honor, magic, and the mysterious Otherworld.

In this tale, Pwyll, a mortal prince of Dyfed (southwestern Wales), crosses paths with Arawn, the King of Annwn — a powerful ruler of the Welsh Otherworld. To make amends for a trespass, Pwyll agrees to trade places with Arawn for a year and a day. In Arawn’s form, Pwyll must defeat his rival, Hafgan, in single combat. But the deeper test lies in the unseen: during the year in Arawn’s place, Pwyll sleeps beside Arawn’s queen every night — and never touches her.

When the year ends and the ruse is revealed, Arawn is astonished by Pwyll’s restraint. The quote used in this song —

“Between me and God,” said he, “good is thine answer; and now I know that the man is faithful.”
— captures the heart of the tale: honor in the unseen, loyalty when no one is watching, and the forging of eternal friendship through trust.

This mythic story, reborn through pulsing synth and ritual beat, speaks to the ancient soul still burning in modern times.
