On August 29, 2025, the White House released a special video on YouTube to commemorate Labor Day, in which members of President Donald Trump's cabinet shared stories about their first jobs. The video highlights how these initial jobs contributed to their work ethic and commitment to American workers. Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer opened the video by recalling that, due to financial limitations, her first job was packing peaches at Warmerdam’s Packing in Hanford, California, where she worked 12-hour shifts. Thanks to this job, she was able to buy the uniform to become a cheerleader in high school and lost 15 pounds. To this day, she still appreciates peaches. Secretary of Veterans Affairs Doug Collins shared that his first job was as a cleaner in a local grocery store called Big Star. This job turned into a five-year experience spanning from high school through college. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard recalled her first job as a newspaper delivery person in Honolulu, Hawaii, and how her parents instilled a strong work ethic in her from a young age. Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency Lee Zeldin started at his local community library earning minimum wage. He was later promoted to cashier and then to dress shirt supervisor, receiving a $0.50 per hour raise.
