XBHDA Component Adapter Revision by Retro-Teck Demonstration and Review
This component adapter can be purchased from Retro-teck here: https://www.ebay.com/str/retroteck
- The XBHDA Component Adapter revision passes the brightness and contrast tests. The final results are on par with or slightly better than those of the previous version.
- I compared the brightness/contrast slide to the results of the previous test battery. The peak brightness appears to be slightly improved. Though it is very hard to see, even when super zoomed in. Thus you may not be able to tell from normal viewing distances. The contrast is also on par with the previous version.
- The optical audio output is clean.
- This adapter continues to be the top option for the original Xbox. It also pairs very well with the RetroTink 4K.
- The physical design of the adapter itself is also much improved. Its new form factor has all the component and optical outputs facing the same side. The opposite side has the input HD15 connector.
- The 3D printed casing also feels improved over previous version. The trimmings for outputs are cut to allow for thicker-jacketed optical cables.
- I highly recommend the XBHDA Component Adapter, especially this revision.
- Note: The previous version was my top pick of all component adapter options. Combining it with a RetroTink scaler continues to produce far superior results than any direct-to-HDMI adapter. The XBHDA Component Adapter retains its title of being the best external solution.
- Side-note: The previous test videos used the RetroTink 5X-Pro for testing. This one used the RetroTink 4K Pro.
- Transparency note: The XBHDA Component Adapter was provided to me by Retro-teck for review and demonstration. All findings in this review are from my own testing and observations.
