The War Game 1966 ‧ War/Sci‑fi ‧ 48 mins
The War Game is a frightening film, and drew public attention to Peter Watkins' vision of the grim realities that might await us after a nuclear attack. In this British documentary, a hypothetical Chinese invasion of South Vietnam triggers a new world war between East and West. In the town of Rochester, Kent, the anticipation of a nuclear attack leads to mass evacuations. When a stray missile actually explodes, the ensuing firestorm blinds all those who see it. It's not long before the fabric of society is ripped apart owing to radiation poisoning, a lack of infrastructure and rioting for food and other necessities.

The War Game foreshadows how easily things can go wrong if we allow technology to operate unchecked. It highlights the dangers of nuclear warfare, automation, cyber warfare, and the consequences of relying too heavily on systems we don't fully understand.
