5 Lessons About Divorce and Remarriage from Jeremiah 3 - Divorce Your Remarriage Overview Part 9

This is the nineth episode in a series that overviews the content of my book Divorce Your Remarriage. I am Chris Iverson and in this episode I respond to the question, is God divorced? This question arises out of Jeremiah 3 where the prophet in verse 8 teaches us that God "divorced" unsaved people who were affiliated with God, but were not converted. This text is employed by believers with a permissive view on divorce and remarriage to defend their lenient views. However, in this episode I show that, once we get beyond the headline "God is divorced" and we get into the details of the actual text, Jeremiah 3 supports a strict anti-divorce and anti-remarriage interpretation. For example, God through Jeremiah tells the 'remarried' divorcee (the Northern Kingdom) to divorce her remarriage and be married to God. That matches the New Testament teaching that adulterous remarriages ought to be divorced.
