A Tale of Two Kings of Judah PART THREE

The King Who Walked as David Walked

II Chronicles 17

Asa is still listed as one of the righteous kings of Judah. It is unimportant how one may start, but it is of utmost necessity how one finishes the race. So Asa rested with his fathers. He reigned for 41 years. Chapter 17, Verse 1 tells us, then Jehoshaphat, his son, reigned in his place

So, there is this same tension that we have seen from the time of Rehoboam and Jeroboam. It continued until 722 BC when the 10 northern tribes got taken over by the Assyrians into captivity. Nevertheless, the people of Judah remained in the land. So until then, there had been this strife, in this civil war, between the Northern and Southern Kingdoms.

And so, Jehoshaphat strengthened himself against Israel. He knew that, politically and spiritually, he did not want to be in league with Israel. But, what is troubling about Jehoshaphat is he had an attraction to the evil kingdom to the north even though he knew and loved the one true God, He still had allure with the pagan idolatry of King Ahab and Queen Jezebel up north.

In many ways, Jehoshaphat was like David, his father. He was sensitive to the Lord, as David, father was. It was David’s greatest desire to please his God and Never to disappoint Him. What were the former ways of David? Watch and learn from God’s word together with us!
