In Vallejo, California, the use of fireworks is generally illegal for residents, with only two exceptions: professional, permitted displays at the Vallejo Waterfront on July 4th and at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom from July 3rd through July 6th.
Despite these legal exceptions, the widespread use of illegal fireworks remains a significant concern, particularly around the Fourth of July holiday. In 2025, the Vallejo Fire Department responded to 89 calls related to fires and noise from illegal fireworks from midnight on July 3rd into the early hours of July 4th, a volume about twice the normal level.
This high number of calls is consistent with past years, such as the 86 calls recorded on July 4th in 2024.

The illegal use of fireworks has led to numerous fires, including vegetation fires, debris fires, and vehicle fires, with the majority of incidents attributed to illegal fireworks.
In 2021, over 600 firework-related calls were received, and in 2020, 359 calls were made.
The Vallejo Fire and Police Departments actively work to deter illegal activity by increasing patrols, conducting door-to-door outreach, and encouraging residents to report violations.
Reports can be made via 9-1-1 for emergencies or the non-emergency police line at (707) 648-4321.
The city also utilizes platforms like SeeClickFix and Axon’s “Citizen Assist” portal to collect evidence of illegal fireworks use.

The city emphasizes that using illegal fireworks is dangerous, posing risks of serious injury, property damage, and fire hazards.
The Vallejo Fire Department has implemented extensive preparations for the holiday, including additional staffing and public education campaigns starting 30 days in advance.
While the 2025 event saw a high volume of calls and significant noise, described by residents as feeling like a "war zone"
, the department reported less property damage and no injuries compared to previous years, which they attribute to their proactive measures.
For residents seeking a safe way to celebrate, the city recommends attending the sanctioned events at the Waterfront or Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. They have shot at and or over my house to threaten me but I guess I need to take it since it is illegal to use fire works but I guess the law means nothing to people of my hell home state where you can not do any thing unless your skin is darker or you are lesbian.
