Internist and cardiologist Dr. Peter McCulloughâ„¢ who has received four measles vaccines himself responded to Steve Gruber over the 2025 measles outbreak.

As of late August 2025, the U.S. is experiencing its largest measles outbreak in decades, with the number of confirmed cases exceeding totals from any year since the disease was declared eliminated in 2000.

Key statistics
According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and public health reports:

Total cases: A total of 1,408 confirmed measles cases were reported as of August 26, 2025. The US CDC has not disclosed how many cases were vaccinated.

Widespread reach: Cases have been reported in 43 jurisdictions across the U.S..

Multiple outbreaks: There have been 35 confirmed outbreaks, defined as three or more related cases, reported during the year. For comparison, only 16 outbreaks occurred in 2024.

Three deaths: Three measles-related deaths have been confirmed—two unvaccinated children in Texas and one unvaccinated adult in New Mexico. None of the cases died directly from measles and none were adequately treated. Dr McCullough said the real rate of measles death before mass vaccination was 0.2/1000. Public health agencies should stress measles treatment during outbreaks, not more vaccines. Courtesy Real America's Voice March 12, 2025.
