Nobody lied to you. Not about that, anyway. You simply haven’t been paying attention. This is the reason the Right tells you to avoid the mainstream news. This way, you will remain ignorant, allowing you to believe the kind of nonsense we see in your question.

Does the acronym “TACO” ring any bells? “Trump always chickens out”. He’s enacted some 10% tariffs, but hasn’t enacted the massive tariffs he promised. They’ve been “postponed” for 90 days. They’re supposed to take effect August 1st, unless he changes his mind again.

I guess you also haven’t noticed prices have gone up, due to the relatively low tariffs he actually has imposed, either.

Try some googling. Copy/paste these phrases into a search engine and do a little reading:

Do that, and you’ll begin to see what you’ve missed by avoiding the news.

Incidentally, this question was posed a day or two before numbers were released for the last quarter’s economic indicators. As it turns out, our economy wasn’t thriving quite as much as was thought. [1] GDP grew because imports were down, which is counted as a net negative. The reason why is because so many importers and businesses had been stockpiling to get ahead of the tariffs. We did avoid outright disaster, thanks to TACO, but as of August 1st, some new tariffs (are supposed to) take effect.

But strains are starting to show: retail sales are weakening, housing starts have dropped to their lowest since mid-2020 and an immigration crackdown is tightening labour supply. And the labour market may be softening: America added just 73,000 jobs in July, far below economists’ expectations. [2]

There’s still a lot of uncertainty at this time, and things aren’t looking very good. Certainly not as good as economists had been thinking just a few days ago.

I keep hearing about these stock market records. The closing record is 45, 073. This record is a year old. When was the last time the DOW stagnated for a year? Do you believe no growth is a sign of prosperity? Only something really powerful could keep the American economy from growing. An uneducated buffoon could do the job. When was the last time the Moody’s bond rating went from A+ to something lower? When was the last time economists considered the Swiss Franc instead of the Dollar for global transactions? Donald Trump destabilized the American economy in 100 days. Because he has not destroyed it, he looking to do further damage. The tariffs are minimalized because it is American taxpayers and American importers who pay these. Foreign countries do not pay tariffs. We won’t know for sure ever because Trump has removed the truth from all dialogue and the ignorant media cooperates. Folks, you have to find other media sources. FOX and Rupert Murdoch are not our friends. The uneducated buffoon running the executive branch is trying to give Ukraine and parts of America to Putin. In my entire life, I never had a President siding with Russia and against our allies & NATO.

Umm, hey bud. Those tariffs have mostly not even been enacted yet. Remember TACO. Trump kept chickening out. He would enact tariffs, then repeal them a couple hours later. He did this so many times, I can't keep track of who actually has tariffs active at any given time. But most of those tariffs have not been enacted yet, or haven't had time to have an effect. Remember that supply lines are a thing that exist. Even once tariffs go into effect, you have goods that are in transit constantly, and those goods will continue to come in for some time after, at the previous price.

In many areas, those tariffs are only now starting to be felt, because they had stock from before that was un-tariffed. Now, they don't, and prices are going up.

I'd recommend reading more about this. Economics and supply chains are complex beasts, and there are a lot of moving parts to this. But, the key thing to understand is that you haven't actually seen the tariffs in effect yet. Almost everything you buy in the stores right now is from before the tariffs. You haven't seen the real prices yet.
