On December 7, 1941, the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor — and in the chaos, a cook named Doris “Dorie” Miller made history. With no formal training, Miller carried wounded shipmates to safety and then manned an anti-aircraft gun, shooting down enemy planes.
This is the story of how a Navy cook became one of the first African American heroes of World and a symbol of courage that still inspires today.
