The Royal Law of Love | Prophetic Rock Song | Matthew 22

📖 Jesus said the entire Law and the Prophets hang on two commandments: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind,” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:37–39). Many believers understand the call to love God and to love their neighbor, but overlook the vital middle ground—loving themselves as God’s creation.

How can we love our neighbor if we refuse to forgive ourselves? How can we give mercy if we live in shame? The Gospel reveals the blessing of forgiveness not only toward others but also toward our own hearts. Christ has removed our sins “as far as the east is from the west” (Psalm 103:12). In Him, “there is no condemnation” (Romans 8:1). To reject His forgiveness is to withhold the very love we are commanded to extend.

The Royal Law of Love is freedom:

To forgive yourself because Christ has forgiven you.

To love yourself as a child of God, created in His image.

To love your neighbor with the same mercy you’ve received.

Paul wrote, “The whole law is fulfilled in one word: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’” (Galatians 5:14). James called it “the royal law according to the Scripture” (James 2:8). Love is not weakness; it is the fulfillment of the Law, the strength of the Kingdom, and the anthem of Heaven.

This song is a prophetic rock celebration of that truth: to love, to forgive, and to live free in Christ.

🎵 Lyrics: The Royal Law of Love

Verse 1
“You shall love the Lord your God,
With all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.
This is the first and greatest command,
And the second is like unto it—
You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:37–39)

But how can I love my neighbor, Lord,
If I won’t forgive myself?
Your mercy breaks my chains,
Your cross declares my freedom.

Pre-Chorus
As far as east is from the west,
So far You’ve taken my sins from me. (Psalm 103:12)
There’s no condemnation in Christ— (Romans 8:1)
I am free, I am free!

Chorus
Love your neighbor as yourself!
This is the royal law of love. (James 2:8)
Forgiven, redeemed, I stand,
By the blood of the Lamb! (Ephesians 1:7)
I can love because You loved me first— (1 John 4:19)
I am free to love, free to forgive,
Free to be who You made me to be!

Verse 2
The commandments are fulfilled in this word:
“You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Romans 13:9)
No vengeance, no grudges—
Only love that does no harm. (Leviticus 19:18)

And when I see myself through Your eyes,
The shame falls away like broken chains.
I rise forgiven, I rise beloved—
I rise in the power of grace.

Bridge
Love does no harm to a neighbor,
Love is the fulfillment of the law. (Romans 13:10)
Love does no harm to yourself,
For you are His temple, holy and called.

Final Chorus
Love your neighbor as yourself!
This is the royal law of love.
Forgiven, redeemed, I stand,
By the blood of the Lamb!
I can love because You loved me first—
I am free to love, free to forgive,
Free to be who You made me to be!

“Love your neighbor… as yourself!”
