Franklin's Tower is a song by the Grateful Dead, written by lyricist Robert Hunter and composed by Jerry Garcia, first appearing on their 1975 album Blues for Allah.
The song is known for its evocative lyrics and has become a staple of the band's live performances, featured on numerous official releases and live recordings from the 1970s through the 1990s, including Dick's Picks, View From The Vault, and the 30 Trips Around The Sun box set.
It was also released as a single in 1976 paired with "Help On The Way".

Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
In another time's forgotten space
Your eyes looked through your mother's face
Wildflower seed on the sand and stone
May the four winds blow you safely home

[Chorus]
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew

[Verse 2]
I'll tell you where the four winds dwell
In Franklin's tower there hangs a bell
It can ring, turn night to day
It can ring like fire when you lose your way

[Chorus]
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew

[Verse 3]
God save the child who rings that bell
It may have one good ring left, baby, you can't tell
One watch by night, one watch by day
If you get confused just listen to the music play

[Instrumental Break]

[Verse 4]
Some come to laugh their past away
Some come to make it just one more day
Whichever way your pleasure tends
If you plant ice, you're gonna harvest wind

[Chorus]
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew

[Verse 5]
In Franklin's tower the four winds sleep
Like four lean hounds the lighthouse keep
Wildflower seed in the sand and wind
May the four winds blow you home again

[Chorus]
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew
You'd better roll away the dew
Roll away the dew
You'd better roll away the dew (Roll away)
Roll away the dew
You'd better roll away the dew (Roll away)
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew (Roll away)
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew (Roll away)
You'd better roll
