Nature's struggle for survival: Water snake devours mudpuppy
Nature can be beautiful, but also cruel. The battle for survival is always happening, even when everything seems peaceful and serene. Animals must eat. Predators can become prey in an instant if they let their guard down, as this large mudpuppy found out. Mudpuppies amphibious creatures that are found in many freshwater lakes in North America. Water snakes which feed heavily on mudpuppies and fish, are also common in most lakes.
This mudpuppy seemed inpossibly large for the snake to swallow but its ability to dislocate its jaws allowed it to work the mudpuppy into its stomach with a little effort. It quickly swam off in search of a place to bask in the sun and digest its meal. The snake doesn't want to delay for even a moment because hawks, foxes, raccoons, and other predators are always happy to find a well-fed snake for their own meal.
