Lin Lanying (February 7, 1918 - March 4, 2003), a native of Putian, Fujian Province, was a semiconductor materials scientist, physicist, and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. She graduated from the Department of Physics at Fujian Union University (the predecessor of Fujian Normal University) in 1940 and taught there. She went to the United States to study in 1948 and received a Ph.D. in solid-state physics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1955. She overcame numerous obstacles and returned to China in 1957 with new semiconductor materials. 林蘭英（1918.2.7—2003.3.4），福建省莆田市人，半導體材料科學家、物理學家，中國科學院院士。 1940年從福建協和大學（福建師范大學前身）物理系畢業后留校任教﹔1948年赴美留學，1955年獲得賓夕法尼亞大學固體物理學博士學位。 她於1957年沖破重重阻礙，帶著半導體新材料回到中國.
