Plot:
In the coastal town of Southport, North Carolina, a group of five friends—Ava Brucks, Danica Richards, Milo Griffin, Teddy Spencer, and Stevie Ward—accidentally cause a fatal car crash on Reaper's Curve during a Fourth of July outing, leading to the death of a local man, Sam Cooper. They cover up the incident with help from Teddy's influential father, Grant Spencer, a real estate tycoon who suppresses the town's dark history for tourism. One year later, as the group reunites for Danica's bridal shower, they receive a threatening note: "I know what you did last summer." A copycat killer dressed as the iconic Fisherman (in a rain slicker and wielding a hook) begins stalking and murdering them one by one, imitating the 1997 Southport Massacre from the original film. Realizing the parallels, the survivors seek help from Julie James and Ray Bronson, the now-divorced survivors of the original killings (Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr.). As bodies pile up, the group uncovers secrets tied to privilege, trauma, and the town's buried past, leading to shocking twists about the killer's identity and motives.
Characters:
Ava Brucks (Chase Sui Wonders): Bisexual climate lawyer and moral center of the group; Ava's guilt drives the story as she reconnects with old friends and seeks help from the original survivors.
Danica Richards (Madelyn Cline): Ditzy, privileged bride-to-be; bubbly and humorous but morally flexible..
Milo Griffin (Jonah Hauer-King): Ava's ex-boyfriend; charming but opportunistic, with a political career; provides comic relief and tension in romantic subplots.
Teddy Spencer (Tyriq Withers): Danica's fiancé and local rich kid; arrogant and entitled, uses family influence to cover up the accident; early suspect due to his connections.
Stevie Ward (Sarah Pidgeon): Estranged friend recovering from drug rehab; troubled and suspicious, delivers a key monologue.
Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt): Original final girl, now a psychology professor haunted by trauma; divorced from Ray, provides guidance but struggles with PTSD.
Ray Bronson (Freddie Prinze Jr.): Original survivor, now a local bar owner in Southport.
Grant Spencer (Billy Campbell): Teddy's father, a corrupt politician and real estate developer; suppresses the town's history for profit; suspect due to power and motives.
Tyler Trevino (Gabbriette Bechtel): True crime podcaster researching the 1997 killings.
Wyatt (Austin Nichols): Danica's new fiancé; early victim, killed gruesomely to kick off the murders.
Karla Wilson (Brandy Norwood, cameo): Julie's old friend from the 1998 sequel; appears in post-credits scene, hinting at future involvement.
