How Accurate Are Elite Long-Range Shooters With Iron Sights?

Long-range shooting isn’t impressive with a scope? That’s what the internet said… so we gave professional long-range shooters a rifle with no optic at all — just iron sights — and pushed the limits.

In this video, we take a 6.5 Creedmoor with backup MBUS sights and attempt the impossible: long-range precision shooting without a scope. These are shooters who normally compete in PRS (Precision Rifle Series) and train with high-end optics, but today it’s nothing but open sights.

We start by zeroing at 50 yards using improvised tools, then put the rifle to the test:

Cutting cards at 200 yards with iron sights

Engaging steel targets at 300 and 500 yards

Stretching out to 600 yards with backup sights only

First-round impacts at 700 yards with iron sights

Attempting the extreme challenge of 900 yards with no scope

Along the way, you’ll see the reality of spotting, wind calls, and corrections when shooting long range without optics. We compare scoped precision rifle shooting to the difficulty of holding center with irons at extended ranges — and test whether those internet comments hold any truth.

Whether you’re a PRS competitor, a hunter, or just someone curious about how far you can push a rifle without an optic, this video shows the limits of accuracy and precision with iron sights at long range.

Can elite long-range shooters really make hits at 700+ yards with nothing but iron sights? Watch and find out.
