Do Immigrants Really Come to Work?

Each year, about 1 million immigrants receive a U.S. Green Card or Permanent Residency. Official statistics show that more than 84% of these immigrants obtain their permanent residency through non-employment routes. Only about 14% receive their Green Cards through employment—that is, they actually came to work.

More than 45% receive US permanent residency as immediate relatives of US citizens, 21% get US permanent residency through family-sponsored preferences, and over 13% get it as Refugees. About 4% receive Green Cards under the Diversity category, to make America more “diverse”.

Once an immigrant becomes a US citizen, there are no limits on how many relatives they can sponsor for US permanent residency.

Based on official stats, the claim that “immigrants come to work hard” is not just misleading; it is a blatant lie.
