The new year has brought more bad news to the French President, who in the past weeks has been facing the sternest challenge of his 20-month long presidency - the yellow vest movement. Mr Macron, who in May 2017 was elected with 66.1 percent of the votes, now has the approval of only 25 percent of the population, according to a survey carried out by Odoxa and Dentsu Consulting for franceinfo and the Figaro newspaper. The poll, which analysed the voting intentions of 1,004 people and has been carried out between January 2 and 3, found that a staggering 75 percent of French voters is unhappy about what Mr Macron and his Government have done so far.

The survey also found that more than half of those polled, 55 percent, believe the yellow vest riots should carry on, despite Mr Macron meeting some of the protesters' requests.
