*THE FIRE MUMMIES OF PHILIPPINES
This is a video of a well preserved mummy with beautiful tattoos marked on some parts of its body. This is just one of the many mummies preserved. The practice is believed by some scientists to have started since 2000 BC until the 16th Century when the Spaniards started to colonize the Philippines. The mummies are particularly kept safe in the burial caves of Timbak, Kabayan, Benguet which is 6-8 hours away from the country's capital, Manila. Recently, the burial caves were closed to the public for further preservation and safety. This video, by the way, was taken in 2016.
*THE MUMMIFICATION PROCESS
That mummification began shortly before a person died, where he would digest a very salty drink. After his death, his corpse was washed and set over a fire in a seated position, thus drying the fluids. Smoke from tobacco was blown into the mouth to dry the body's inside and internal organs. Eventually, herbs were rubbed into the body. Mummified bodies are then placed in a coffin made of pinewood and laid to rest in rock shelters, natural caves or man made burial niches. The practice of that mummification ended, since Spaniards colonized the Philippines in the 16th century. (read more @-----> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kabayan_Mummies)
