Joe Biden's FDA knew that Puberty Blockers caused an increased risk of depression and suicid*lity - but still recommended approving them for kids

Biden’s FDA is now under fire for ignoring the serious mental health risks of puberty blockers, by acknowledging the serious risks, but recommending that children take the drugs anyway.

In a January 25, 2022, email, Shannon Sullivan, clinical team leader in the FDA’s Division of General Endocrinology, admitted that a safety review conducted in 2017 of puberty blockers—showed an “increased risk of depression and suicidality, as well as increased seizure risk” in pediatric patients.

Despite these findings, Sullivan advocated for approving puberty blockers for g*nder transition, citing the need for insurance coverage because of their high cost.

This recommendation appears to contradict the FDA’s own safety data, which led to labeling changes in 2017 to warn of these risks.

The AFL lawsuit, filed on February 28, 2023, accused the FDA of illegally concealing records related to the off-label use of puberty blockers and cross-s*x hormones in children.

The documents released in that lawsuit proved the agency's knowledge of the drug dangers, while still pushing for their approval in tr*nsgender youth.

The Biden administration, former HHS secretary Xavier Becerra and Assistant Secretary for Health Rachel Levine, have publicly promoted puberty blockers as safe and necessary for tr*nsgender minors, claiming they prevent su*cide.
However, the FDA’s internal findings say the complete opposite, saying that the drugs exacerbate the very mental health issues they are claiming to address.

Puberty blockers have also been associated with serious side effects, including bone density loss, chronic pain, and potential infertility.

Reports also note long-term consequences for women who used these drugs in their youth, such as osteoporosis and degenerative disc disease.

Unlike the U.S., countries like the UK have restricted puberty blockers for gender transitions, saying there isn't enough evidence about their safety and efficacy.
