Reference footage should not be considered a crutch! It is a vital part of getting our animation to FEEL believable.
Through the use of reference footage, we can:
1. Understand the Mechanics of actions
2. Study HOW and WHY things move the way they do
3. Get a better foundation for our own interpretation
4. Ensure the audience BELIEVES in our work
