Madison never had any biological kids of his own, but as the author Jay Cost puts it, “but in a way, we Americans are all the children of James Madison…not only because of his role in creating our founding document. Madison…did more than any of his contemporaries to inform our understanding of politics.”Sure….Madison undoubtedly was one of the smartest presidents in American history. You could say he was an above-average president due to his chill and measured leadership during a crazy time. But today, we remember him more for being a Founding Father than just a president. And we should. We absolutely should. In my opinion, Madison was the best lawmaker in American history. He basically wrote the Constitution, but just as important he got a bunch of rich dudes with giant egos and an incredibly wide range of political beliefs to all AGREE on that Constitution. Simply put, his political maneuvering and pragmatism got the Constitution passed. In that sense, he was the true leader of the Founding Fathers, even more so than…dare I say…George Washington.
