ROUTINE is a sci-fi horror game that’s been in development since 2013, and is designed with a 1980s vision of the what the future would look like. So if you’re familiar with 1980s science-fiction movies, you have a general idea of the aesthetic it’s going for. Developer Lunar Software showed off the game for the first time in years at Gamescom, and it features moody environments on what looks like a derelict ship or a space station. The lighting and water effect look impressive throughout the different areas. The gameplay video shows the player accessing email and computer files, but the gameplay seems to revolve around a weapon or tool the player uses that looks like a cross between a VCR and a gun. He holds it up a lot and uses it to shoot a robot of some sort that is pursuing him before running away.

Apparently, ROUTINE has undergone two game engine changes, as it originally started development on Unreal Engine 3, was moved to UE4, and is now running on UE5. It will release later this year on Xbox Series X/S and PC.
