Representatives of the AllatRa movement participated in the SB62 event and conducted an interview with Dr. Joanne Harding, Executive Director of SCAT, and Nokukhanya Mchunu, Programme Manager at SCAT.

The conversation addressed the escalating impacts of natural disasters on rural and socially disadvantaged communities in South Africa, including more frequent extreme weather events, devastating floods, prolonged droughts, and the loss of livelihoods.

Both interviewees underscored the importance of human rights and shared values for effective community-level action and emphasized the need to build resilience and strengthen food security. The importance of partnerships between civil society, government, and affected communities was also highlighted to ensure that solutions are co-developed with those directly impacted and implemented sustainably.
