On August 27, 2025, a tragic shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis left two children, aged 8 and 10, dead and 17 others injured, including 14 children and three elderly parishioners. The shooter, identified as 23-year-old Robin Westman, fired a rifle, shotgun, and pistol through the church windows during a morning Mass celebrating the first week of school. Westman, who died by suicide at the scene, had legally purchased the weapons recently and acted alone, according to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara.

Westman, born Robert Westman, identified as female and changed their name in 2019. Prior to the attack, Westman posted disturbing content on a now-deleted YouTube channel under “Robin W.” An 11-minute video showed them flipping through a manifesto with handwritten entries in English and Cyrillic, including a church floor plan and phrases like “I wanna kill myself.” Other videos displayed weapons with messages like “for the children” and “kill Donald Trump” written on ammunition magazines, indicating fixations on violence and past mass shooters.
