Hey everyone, it’s Leaflit! Today I’m reacting to Decoy Voice’s video “Kentucky Just Snapped...” about the uproar when around 100 protesters blocked the Roebling Bridge between Cincinnati and Covington in support of an ICE detainee. Kentucky police arrested 13 demonstrators after they refused orders to disperse and blocked critical infrastructure.
In my reaction, I'll explain why peaceful protest is one thing—but disrupting a major river bridge during evening traffic crosses the line. These tactics endangered drivers, pedestrians, and even first responders. I fully support Kentucky law enforcement for enforcing the law, arresting those who refused to move, and protecting public order and safety.
Police arrested at least 13 demonstrators—including two journalists—after they refused orders to disperse and blocked traffic lanes on the Roebling Bridge. Charges included felony rioting, obstructing a highway, and criminal mischief.
Kentucky officials argue protesters endangered public safety by blocking a vital infrastructure link at rush hour. Officers attempted de-escalation and warned demonstrators to move before arrests occurred.
Coverage shows a tense confrontation: protesters reportedly grabbed at vehicles, and one officer was seen striking a protester multiple times during an attempt to restrain him. The officer has been placed on duty pending review.
Although felony rioting charges have since been dropped for the two CityBeat journalists, they still face misdemeanor counts like disorderly conduct and failure to disperse. Other protesters pleaded guilty to lesser charges.
Public safety is paramount – Blocking a critical bridge with cars and officers on both sides isn’t peaceful—it’s reckless.
Law enforcement did their job – When protesters refuse lawful orders, police have a duty to arrest and maintain order.
Protests don’t trump rights – The right to assemble doesn’t include risking lives and obstructing vital infrastructure.
Respect for civic process – Describing unsanctioned, dangerous disruption as “activism” is misleading. Order must prevail.
