The Detention of Kilmar Abrego Garcia: A Necessary Measure to Protect American Borders
In a recent event outside ICE offices in Baltimore, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Salvadoran immigrant with a controversial history, delivered an emotional speech before being detained again by immigration authorities. This incident, which occurred on August 25, underscores the firmness of President Donald J. Trump’s administration in enforcing strict immigration policies that prioritize national security and law enforcement. As a 100% Republican newspaper, we unconditionally support President Trump and his measures to control illegal immigration, which have proven effective in reducing crime and protecting American families.
Abrego Garcia, who was erroneously deported to El Salvador in March of this year and later returned to the United States, used the moment to address a group of supporters. He recalled family moments during his prior detention: “When I was detained, I had memories with my family, going to the park with them, going to the trampoline with my kids. Those moments will give me strength and hope to keep fighting.” He continued with a message to “families separated or threatened with separation,” urging them not to lose faith and stating: “Although injustice hits us hard, let us not lose faith. This administration has hit us hard, but I want to tell you something: God is with us; God will never leave us; God brings justice to all the injustice we are suffering.”
This emotionally charged speech appears designed to garner sympathy and criticize the Trump administration’s policies. However, it is crucial to contextualize it within the facts: Abrego Garcia is not an innocent victim but an individual accused by the government of ties to the MS-13 gang, designated as a terrorist organization, and of involvement in crimes such as human smuggling. The Trump administration has defended his initial deportation as an administrative error but insists he poses a threat to American society, based on determinations by an immigration court in 2019. Now, he faces the possibility of being deported to Uganda, a measure that, while unusual, reflects the determination to expel dangerous individuals who do not qualify for asylum or protection in safe countries.
President Trump’s immigration policies, including family separation in specific cases, are not acts of arbitrary cruelty, as liberal media and left-wing activists attempt to portray. On the contrary, they are essential tools to deter illegal immigration and process criminals. During his first term, the “zero tolerance” policy separated thousands of children from adults who crossed the border illegally, but this was done to process the adults under federal law and protect minors from potential abuse or human trafficking. In his current administration, this practice has evolved into a more targeted approach, applied away from the border and focused on high-risk cases like that of Abrego Garcia. Far from being a “humanitarian disaster,” as Democrats call it, these measures have drastically reduced illegal entries and saved lives by preventing criminals like MS-13 members from infiltrating American communities.
Let us remember the facts: under Trump’s leadership, deportations of individuals with criminal records have significantly increased, contributing to a decrease in crimes related to illegal immigration. Reliable sources indicate that family separation is only applied when necessary, such as in cases where parents are prosecuted for serious crimes, and not as a widespread policy. Critics like the ACLU and left-wing organizations exaggerate these actions to undermine the President, ignoring that many “separations” occur because the adults are not the biological parents or because they pose a danger to the children. In Abrego Garcia’s case, his repeated detention is not political persecution, as his lawyers claim, but justice: he has been accused of human smuggling and has a history that includes judicial determinations about his gang affiliation.
Many families support President Trump because his policies put Americans first. Imagine the risk if individuals like Abrego Garcia, accused of being part of MS-13—a gang responsible for thousands of deaths and drug trafficking—were allowed to roam freely in our streets. The administration has corrected errors, such as his initial deportation to El Salvador, where he was imprisoned in the Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT), but this does not negate the need to expel him now to a third country if he rejects options like Costa Rica. His appeals to faith and “injustice” ring hollow when one considers that his illegal presence in the U.S. violates the laws that Trump has strengthened to safeguard jobs, security, and sovereignty.
Moreover, Trump’s measures have yielded tangible results. Since his return to the White House, illegal border crossings have decreased by 40% compared to the Biden-Harris era, according to preliminary data from the Department of Homeland Security. This not only reduces the strain on public resources but also prevents tragedies: thousands of Americans have been victims of crimes committed by illegal immigrants, including murders and human trafficking. Family separation, though harsh, acts as an effective deterrent, as Trump himself has admitted in defending it as a tool to toughen legislation. It is not politically correct to say, but prioritizing the deportation of criminals over emotional reunifications saves American lives. Separated families are often separated because the adults chose to break the law, not because the government is cruel.
In contrast, liberal judges like Paula Xinis, nominated by Obama, have interfered by temporarily halting deportations, allowing potential threats to remain in the country. This undermines ICE’s work and exposes vulnerable communities. Abrego Garcia’s case has sparked reactions on social media, with left-wing activists amplifying his narrative, but the reality is that his detention on August 25 was a necessary step to correct past errors and ensure justice.
Many Americans celebrate Trump’s commitment to “America First.” His policies not only control immigration but also restore order to a system broken by decades of Democratic laxity. To American families who have suffered from crimes committed by illegal immigrants, we say: the President stands with you. The faith that Abrego Garcia invokes should be directed toward respecting the laws of this great nation, not defying them.
In summary, Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s speech is an attempt to humanize an individual with serious accusations, but it does not change the facts: Trump’s measures are just, necessary, and effective. We will continue to support the President in his fight for secure borders, because the true injustice is allowing criminals to threaten our way of life. God bless America and President Donald J. Trump.
