The Project for the New American Century (PNAC) was a neoconservative think tank in Washington, D.C., founded in 1997 by William Kristol and Robert Kagan. Its goal was to promote U.S. global leadership through strong military power and "moral clarity." Ten of its 25 founding signatories, including Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, and Paul Wolfowitz, later served in the George W. Bush administration. PNAC is often seen as influential in shaping support for the Iraq War, though some scholars argue its impact was overstated. The group dissolved in 2006 and was succeeded by the Foreign Policy Initiative (2009–2017).
