Title: The Little Book Pt 7

Text: Revelation 10:1-11

Vital Verse: “And they said to me, “You must prophesy again concerning many peoples and nations and tongues and kings.”—Revelation 10:11

Insights: Like chapter seven, chapter ten offers a brief intermission during the sixth trumpet and second woe (cf. Revelation 9:13-11:14). Between the sixth and seventh seals, two visions of security and salvation emerge:
1) sealing of 144,000 Jews from the twelve tribes (Revelation 7:1-8);
2) salvation of mixed multitude (Revelation 7:9-17).
Now, between the sixth and seventh trumpet, a mighty angel, probably Michael, descends from heaven to earth (Revelation 10:1). He possesses a majesty rainbow on his head, his face is radiant like the sun, and his feet are pillars of fire. The details inform the reader of the unique nature of this being. Now John sees the angel’s right foot on the sea and left foot on the earth with an open “little book” in his hand (Revelation 10:2). Books symbolize a secure account of important facts. Many commentators identify the angel as Jesus Christ. Suggesting this entity is the Lamb seems erroneous since John “took the little book out of the angel’s hand” (Revelation 10:10). John obeys the instructions to eat the book that tastes sweet and becomes bitter to his stomach (Revelation 10:9-10). The act prepares John to prophesy a sweet and bitter divine message for peoples, nations, tongues, and kings (Revelation 10:11).
