Webinar | No Peace In Ukraine As Long As Xi Wants War There

Pursuit of Peace Process Fails to Reckon with the CCP’s Role in Enabling Putin’s Predations

Someone was missing at President Trump’s meeting with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in Anchorage. Of course, three days later, Ukrainian president Vladimir Zelensky got his chance for face-to-face negotiations with Mr. Trump about the fate of his country accompanied by a posse of influential European allies.

In those conversations and the countless hours of negotiations that preceded and followed them, however, there was another party to this conflict who was not only absent. His enormous and hugely counterproductive role seems to have gone almost completely unnoted.

That would be China’s Communist emperor, Xi Jinping. He apparently greenlighted Russia’s invasion at the start of the 2022 Beijing Olympics in the meeting with Vladimir Putin where they formalized a “no-limits” partnership that, at a minimum, has enabled Russia’s ongoing destruction of much of Ukraine. Certainly, no nation has benefitted more than the PRC from that war – notably, from its purchase of Russian energy at bargain-basement prices, arms sales to Moscow and the chaos that has distracted the United States and other Western nations, fracturing their alliance and draining their treasuries and arsenals.

China expert Gordon Chang believes that President Trump is refraining from holding Xi accountable for his various hostile actions lest it destabilize his regime and imperil Chinese Communist Party rule. To the contrary, he has just announced that 600,000 PRC nationals would be given student visas to help us “get along with China.” These are formulas for allowing the CCP to get away with still more murder – literally. The truth is that there will be no peace in Ukraine, let alone the Pacific, as long as that is the case.

This CPDC webinar examines Communist China’s role in the Ukraine war, why Xi is intent on perpetuating it, and whether there is any real prospect for peace as long as that’s the case.
