Indian Navy Adds Two BrahMos-Armed Stealth Frigates As PM Modi Raises Defence Push | Spotlight |N18G

India added a major boost to its naval strength with the commissioning of two new stealth frigates, INS Udaygiri and INS Himgiri, in Visakhapatnam. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh called it a landmark moment, the first time two frontline combatants have been commissioned simultaneously, describing it as proof of India’s self-reliance in defence. Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi underscored India’s growing maritime deterrence, recalling the swift deployment during Operation Sindoor. The frigates are indigenously built and feature integrated modular construction, making them faster to assemble and more efficient. Larger yet sleeker than earlier classes, they boast stealth features, BrahMos and Barak-8 missile systems, torpedoes, naval guns, and advanced electronic warfare suites. With four more vessels on the way, India aims to expand its naval reach across the Indo-Pacific, showcasing the "Make in India" push in maritime power.
