Hidden in the highland Indonesian province of Papua.

Calling this site a full-fledged runway can only be done with a large degree of conditionality; in reality, it is a narrow, short strip of dirt laid on a steep slope and engulfed by jungle. The strip was created as a vital transport artery to access isolated mountain areas that are impossible to reach by land, and aviation serves as the only connection to the outside world here.

Passenger and cargo delivery to Hukimo is only possible on light aircraft specially adapted for operation on unprepared short airstrips.

And it might all seem simple, but the limited length, steep slopes, lack of hard surface, frequent rains, and complex mountain turbulence make every approach a real test of flying skill and require the pilot to have high qualifications and experience.
