Shooting an 1863 Sharps Cavalry Percussion Carbine and some shots from an 1851 Colt Navy Style Revolver. The Colt Co. never actually made an 1851 Navy in .44 Caliber and that is why I am stating it is in the type of style. The load for the carbine is 60 grains of Goex ffg in paper cartridges made from nitrated thermal calculator paper propelling a home cast .54 caliber moose molds christmas tree conical. The paper in the cartridges after 5 shots that day burnt completely.

The 11 year loads in the brass frame 44 revolver were pre-loaded cylinders kept sealed with rubber revolver seals until capped at site. The load was 22 grains of Goex fffg with a kitchen wax paper disk over the powder, followed by a wax milk carton disk then cereal filler and a wonder wad followed by both .454 round balls in one cylinder and conicals in another cylinder with each projectile being closer to the forcing cone of the barrel. Then the cylinders were sealed over each projectile with wonder wad butter buttons at the edges. The caps were no. 10 cci and high heat plastic tubing cap guards were placed over each cap to keep the caps intact after each shot. Loading this way it is possible to keep the loads fresh a very long time.
