Discipline - 2

Discipline – for most of us that is a dirty word. It conjures up images of punishment, painful struggles with willpower, and even reminds us of our failures to reach our goals. We remember scriptures that tell us not to shy away from the discipline of the Lord and think that means we’re to submit ourselves to His punishments and chastisements.

What if our traditional use of the word discipline is different from the Greek and Hebrew words in the Bible that have been translated discipline in English? What if the Bible meaning of discipline is not anything like what we normally associate with discipline?

Well, buckle up for a wild ride through the Bible and prepare to see scriptures about discipline in a whole new light – a light that will work to help you reach your goals that you have been struggling with.

Here is a hint of what you will discover in this teaching. Jesus had disciplines, right? Did Jesus ever “use the rod” on His disciples? No, we know that a disciple is a learner, a pupil of a teacher, one who is being trained by a master to become themselves masters of a subject. Why then, would we think that discipline is not all about learning and education?
