In October 1943, The U.S. Navy conducted a top-secret experiment at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. The goal: to render the destroyer escort USS Eldridge invisible to enemy detection using powerful electromagnetic fields. Witnesses later described strange green mist, distortion of light, and even teleportation of the ship to Norfolk, Virginia. Some crew members allegedly suffered horrifying side effects—disorientation, madness, and even being fused into the ship’s metal.
