I wish

So many times the path that we are walking on, growing through on are crooked paths, not straight and not easy to follow to the end. It is easier to navigate a straight path, because we have a disadvantage, which is called our “human condition” which doesn’t work well with crooked paths. We get easily frustrated and when we don’t patiently endure, that frustration turns to anger, a powerful emotion that usually dead ends with: “I Wish I Hadn’t”

A crooked path could be very frustrating, because we can’t see ahead, we can’t see God’s endgame. It makes walking through this life, growing through hard life paths, very, very, frustrating. Then, having a human condition like we do, life piles up on our back and we start thrusting things off and they hit other people in the wrong way. We can get really snarky when life is not going well for us. Then we end up with “I wish”… I wish I had not done that… I wish I had not let my emotions get that far… I wish I had not said that… we end up frustrated on crooked paths and regretting, often saying: I wish…

Have you ever spoken something not very encouraging? And you say: I wish I could take that back. This is a regret. Truly there is an adjustment we can make so we can have less of those regrets! We need to learn to not be impulsive when our emotions are screaming and pushing us forward. Stop!We should not take another step until we take a deep breath, inhale God, exhale bad emotions. Inhale-Exhale! God will navigate us in these times with that still small voice of His. Learn to listen up to God when you are frustrated and walking on a crooked path that seems to have no end.

God will often “check” our spirit when we feel like our emotions are really negative, and we feel that “mean spirited” attitude that has taken over our sweet soul. But, sometimes we don’t listen to that Holy Spirit check in our heart, the gut feeling, where we absolutely know God doesn’t want us to say what we are about to say, and we say and do what our emotions are propelling us to say and do anyway, and then we end up saying: “I wish…I wish I hadn’t…”

Because we live in a broken world full of mean spirited people who are serving no power higher than self, there are many crooked paths that we will have to walk on. I know deep in our hearts, we don’t want to end up with the regrets: “I wish I could take that back.” The beautiful thing about doing life in Christ, being found in a personal relationship with God, is, He forgives us and, the icing on the cake is, He forgets. God is not a grudge holder, nor does He punish us for long periods of time by separating Himself from us. Yes, God forgives and forgets and God is the ONLY One Who can and will make our crooked path’s straight.

God’s mercy is new every morning. This is why regrets get cast off of us to no longer burden our soul, because God’s nature is that each new day, with the sunrise of every single morning, He offers us forgiveness, He gives us His mercy. We may have not earned forgiveness, but God offers it. It is good for our soul when we give God the things we regret, we repent, we lament, and we change our hearts, and then God, He takes these soul burdens of regret and makes our crooked path’s straight, right to His heart.

When we connect to God heart to heart, in followship of Him, we won’t have many regrets. Jesus is the way, truth, and life and because in Him, all things are possible, even the self-control of our human condition. The beautiful thing about our human condition in touch with God, our giving of our hearts to Jesus, is there is no condemnation in Christ, this beautiful characteristic of Jesus, makes it so easy for us to let go of our regrets and move forward with God into a new day with His Mercy. God’s mercy should never be: I Wish I Had Received It. It should be the smile in our soul, after we open our hearts wide to God and receive His mercy, which is new for us every morning.
