The video shows one of the most spectacular and important flight tests of the Embraer E190 aircraft - the minimum unstick speed test or VMU Test (Velocity Minimum Unstick).

Determining the minimum unstick speed is a mandatory part of the certification tests for every new type of aircraft. The minimum unstick speed is the speed at which the aircraft can safely lift off the ground and continue the takeoff.

During this test, pilots raise the nose of the aircraft to such a pitch angle that the tail section of the fuselage touches the runway. At this moment, sparks fly from the contact of a special protective bumper with the concrete surface, making the test especially spectacular.

Each new type of aircraft undergoes several such tests with different flap configurations, weights, and engine operating modes. These tests are considered some of the most risky in the flight test program, as the slightest mistake can lead to damage to the expensive prototype.

Beautiful airplanes ✈️
