Loktak Lake – The Floating Jewel of Manipur

This is Loktak Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Northeast India. It’s often called the “Floating Lake” because of the unique phumdis (floating masses of vegetation, soil, and organic matter) that drift across its surface.
My experience here was unforgettable. Even these drone shots can’t capture the true beauty of this place—you really have to see it yourself. The hill you see beside the lake is Thanga Village, where I met some amazing people. The warmth and kindness of the Manipuri people truly touched me. ❤️
After exploring the lake, I had to head towards Silchar (Assam), about 260–280 km away. On the way, I stopped at Bharat Petroleum, Kaomacha Service Station, near Loktak Lake to refuel. I asked them to fill ₹1,000, but by mistake an extra zero was added, and ₹10,000 was debited from my card. At first, I didn’t even notice.
It was only after reaching Silchar and checking my daily expenses that I realized the error. The next morning, I rode back despite the bad road conditions. When I arrived, the manager immediately came out to meet me and said, “We were waiting for you. We realized the mistake ourselves—you didn’t need to come back, we could have directly transferred the ₹9,000.”
But since I had already made the journey, he kindly insisted that I not book a hotel and stay with them overnight before continuing my ride the next morning. That simple act of honesty and hospitality made the whole experience even more memorable.

Which was one of the highlights of my all-India bike ride adventure 🇮🇳
