Warwick began his career in academia, teaching Chinese history and European cultural history at Griffith University. He graduated with First Class Honors and is the recipient of the prestigious University Medal for Academic Excellence. He was also awarded a Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade scholarship to undertake postgraduate studies at People’s University, Beijing. He deferred his studies to begin work for Kevin Rudd in the Queensland Government.
His work is at the intersection of digital innovation & technologies and international political economy, with a focus on the implications, possibilities, and dynamics of distributed ledger and blockchain technologies. He has particular interest in the place of China in the future of international economic and social systems.

He's the author of China, Trust & Digital Supply Chains, published by Routledge.
