Jurema is the cultural tradition named for the use of a plant who shares its name and spirit. It is known in the west through its botanical name "Mimosa Hostilis" and "Mimosa Tenuiflora."
The article featured in this video describes the incredible story of resilience and faith in plants, as the author goes through Brazil in politically unstable times to inform the native peoples about the power of adding an MAOI to the otherwise latent brew of Jurema wine.

The neurochemistry of Jurema is similar to ayahuasca, requiring an admixture for the plant to work; but the plant combination got lost through history and repression by European influence.
