Today, an incident occurred that is hardly routine

An American Airlines flight from New York to Delhi was turned back over the Caspian Sea and landed in Rome, Italy. The reason was an anonymous bomb threat.

The video shows that the plane was escorted by two Eurofighters in the skies over Europe - a standard measure for potential threats.

It took the plane three hours to get to Rome after receiving the message. This, personally, puzzled me, why didn’t they choose the nearest airport for an emergency landing, for example, in Turkey or Georgia?

It turned out that the bomb threat was received by email and was considered “unreliable”, but the Indian authorities refused to accept the plane without additional inspection. Rome was chosen as an airport where the airline had staff and could conduct a full inspection without delays.

In short, the bomb was not found, we hung out for 12 hours in Rome and flew to Delhi 😆. But we did get to admire the fighters from the windows 😅. You don't see that often.
